Hotel Review: The Pearl Hotel New York Times Square

October 16, 2016October 21, 2016 By Lee

Lady-Luck and I have never been very close. While she seems more than happy to stand on the arm of those around me, she never gives me more than a passing glance. As such; I’ve never won the lottery; I’m no genius or natural athlete, and perhaps most disappointing of all; I can’t use my penis as a kickstand when I’m feeling on the lazy side. However, during one a short stay in New York City, we had a brief but amazing affair, within the walls of The Pearl Hotel.

As I mentioned here, I split my three-night stay in NY across two hotels. It was a 10-minute Uber ride between them, and I had some time to kill between check-out at hotel one and check-in at hotel two. When you travel as much as I do, you pick up quite a few tricks. For instance, though check-in at hotel two didn’t start until 4pm, hotels will usually check you in prior to this if they have a clean room from the previous night. As I said; lady-luck usually has little-to-no interest in me so as it happened, they had been fully booked the night before. The staff sent me away with the promise that if I returned around 2pm, they’d have my room type available.

So back I returned at 2pm, bags packed and ready to be checked in. Once again, however, my humble abode was not yet ready to receive me. It was just then that the darling woman known as ‘chance’ – with a little help from her cousin ‘pity’ – stepped in. Out of nowhere, the gentleman at reception gave me a free upgrade to a Deluxe Executive King Room!

New York is famous for its tiny hotel rooms. This wasn’t one those! The room came fitted with a King-sized bed and all the trimmings. The furniture was custom-designed, right down to the granite bathroom and tub. I was afforded comforts like; individual climate control, Waffle knit bathrobe and slippers, and a flat screen T.V. complete with premium channels and on-demand services. The extras I didn’t use but felt special having were; the umbrella, the iron and ironing board, the in-room safe and the iHome system.

The hotel was a one-minute walk to the famous red steps of Times Square so in terms of location, it really couldn’t have been better. The view from my room was the slightly obscured screens of time square, which may sound like a criticism but really isn’t. The hotel was right in the centre of New York’s most famous cultural landmarks so to complain would be to look the gift horse in the mouth.

Overall, it was a fantastic experience and I would love to return again someday. Hopefully, Lady-luck and I will once again get caught up in the romance of the place and she will again grace me with her company.

NEW YORK – APRIL 17, 2012: Night traffic across Times square on April 17, 2012 in New York City. Times Square is the most visited tourist attraction in the world with over 39 million visitors annually.
